Amusement Parks in North Carolina -- What is the Biggest?
![]() |
The biggest and possibly the most popular of the amusement parks in North Carolina is Carowinds. This park features family rides, kids rides and of course, thrill rides. The thrill rides at this park are some of the most exciting found anywhere. Perhaps the most notable coaster in the park is the Borg Assimilator which is the world's first coaster with a Star Trek theme. Whether you're a Trekkie or a coaster junkie you will love this flying coaster which is the first of its kind in the Carolinas.
The Steel Cyclone is another coaster which features breathtaking loops -- four to be exact! This steel thrill machine is one of the parks most popular. If you like a traditional wooden coaster, take a ride on the Hurler. This appropriately named wooden coaster goes 50 mph and will have your heart racing and your stomach turning. Thunder Road is a racing coaster which actually spans both North and South Carolina. Then there's Vortex -- which is a fun stand-up coaster. Other fun thrill rides include the spinning Scream Weaver and Xtreme Skyflier, to name a few.
There are many family friendly rides at Carowinds and plenty of water rides as well. The Carolina Goldrusher is a fun mine car style coaster that is not quite as wild as some of the other coasters. White Water Falls is a plunging water ride that gets you wet and thrills your senses. For kids and adults, check out the popular Spongebob Squarepants 3-D attraction. Kids love Nickelodeon Central, which is an area of the park that features all their favorite Nick characters.
You will also find great concerts and fun live events to enjoy. In addition, there are also plenty of gift shops and dining establishments of all kinds. If you go to Carowinds with your family, you should consider obtaining accommodations and staying for longer than just one day. There is so much to see and do, one day just isn't enough to enjoy it all! It's safe to say that the legendary Carowinds park is possibly the most expansive and popular in the entire Carolinas. It is certainly the biggest of all amusement parks in North Carolina, and is the perfect destination for family fun and excitement!
